Hello, I'm George O'Connor, a Communication Designer currently interning in Stuttgart.

I am currently in my fifth Semester at the Hochschule für Gestaltung in Schwäbisch Gmünd, Germany – an institution known for its interdisciplinary approach to design. My coursework covers the exciting fields of networked, didactic, spatial, and transmedia communication.

Feel free to dive into my projects below to see my creative approach in action!

A Musical Visualisation through Colour, Form and Movement

Musical Visualisation Project

The creative task was to animate a minute-long section of a song we selected. The brief challenged us to precisely translate musical tones into shapes, colors, and movements, while pushing us to convey these elements as abstractly as possible. The visual style was inspired by 2D video games such as Tron and other 8-bit classics, in particular their simple pixelated graphics and limited colour palettes.

Project Preview - Interactive Exhibition Design: A Journey into Student Life in the 1920s

Interactive Exhibition Project Exhibition Close-up View

Continuing my journey in exhibition design, I expanded on my Semester 3 project by participating in my first collaborative exhibition with the "Die Einsteins" museum in Ulm. The brief was to create an exhibition piece that would serve as an extension to the existing museum, exploring several predefined topics. Our exhibit told the story of Jan Groeneveld and utilized a combination of projection mapping and an RFID system to bring it to life.

Planaday

Planaday is an app I co-developed during my fourth semester in the Digital Design – User Experience course. It streamlines day trip planning by allowing users to hyper-personalise and optimise their routes, while ensuring a stress-free experience through an intuitive, playful interface and built-in safeguards.
